First off, charcuterie is a french word used to describe any of a variety of cold cooked or cured meats. On a charcuterie board, the meat is the main focus.
A charcuterie board is a great way to entertain: begin a dinner for guests, or to graze. Usually a charcuterie board offers meats and cheeses with some fruits and nuts. However, you could prepare a board that offered sweets/desserts. You could even do a theme: Halloween, Easter, Christmas, etc.
To make an awesome charcuterie board, choose the size of board that will serve the number of guests. Start with your larger items, like meats and cheeses, first. Then fill in with crackers, breads, nuts, fruits, olives, veggies, etc. A variety of colors, textures, shapes, etc. makes the board more interesting and appealing....like a work of art!
Small serving cups, bowls, etc. adds to the board, as well...not just for appeal, but for practical purposes for sauces/dips, and items that might be juicy and get bread or other items soggy. Small bowls are great for your pickles and olives! Add a taller container for bread sticks. The thing is...make it to fit your needs/interests!!!
So here are some really neat charcuterie boards that I have found. They all have such unique looks! They are like works of art...to eat! So pleasing to the eye, and so yummy to the tummy! I love how you can make it your own! No two boards will be the same...and I LOVE that!
